Gas prices are still stupid, right? We know you want to liberate yourself but aren’t quite sure how to do it. Well, the vehicle highlighted in this post won’t be for everyone, yet it does put a smile on our faces. Here are the requirements:

1. Less than 50 miles driving per day.

2. No need to go over 55 mph.

3. Live in a dry, temperate climate.

4. A helmet.

5. An adventurous side.

That’s right, folks, we’re talking about an electric moped. This moped, however, packs quite a punch. It has a top speed of 55 mph, an estimated range of more than 70 miles (it probably won’t make this mark at high speeds), an expected battery life of 7 - 10 years, and is a ton of fun to drive. Being 100% electric, you could throw some solar panels or a wind turbine up and be driving for free for as long as the bike lasts you. Can anyone say freedom from petrol? It is just too bad a vehicle like this won’t see wider adoption because of silly stuff like lugging the kids around or getting to work dry, but hey, at least some people could convert.

Oh, you want to know what it is?

XM-3500 LI Electric Moped

With a price tag of around $4000 you could trade your car in tomorrow and be saving thousands of gallons and, consequently, thousands of dollars.

Both actually. For those that don’t know anything about Tesla the scientist, you can visit HERE to get your facts about him. If you are a movie connoisseur, you may have heard the name in The Prestige. The man did wonders for innovation and electricity. So, how does this relate to a car you may ask?

Well, if you have read our previous posts about the ball and chain we call oil, then you know we have thoughts on where we should go. It can start with managing your consumption. But, what about the people who want to take it a step further?

Tesla motors is taking steps in solving those problems. They currently have a vehicle that has the largest radius for electric cars. These people mean business.

Everyone knows throughout history that products improve. Lets look at the computer for instance. The computer started around 1940. They were huge machines that took up whole rooms. Now, you can get a computer that is no wider than the desk it sits on. The point is, over time, people have invested money into something, and that money used to purchase products was able to be used for new technology, and in turn makes cheaper products. Such is the cycle of products and technology. How much does a DvD player cost now, as opposed to when the first one was made? See the point?

If you are passionate about relinquishing the hold that oil has on you, go out and try and find something that is alternative energy. It doesn’t have to be an $80,000 car. What about an electric lawn mower. An electric scooter. As money is invested into the the ideas, we will start to see better technology. Next thing you know there will be a battery powered car that can drive from San Fransisco to Portland in one charge.

Make a stand.
